We are developing an unused area of the school grounds and transforming it into a large level area suitable for general play, games, sporting activities and inter-school competitions. The facility has a large overhead canopy to provide shelter from the rain and shade from the sun.
Headteacher, Heather Landers, said:
“We’re increasingly educating our children to be healthy and make good life choices, but we struggle with a lack of space for physical exercise. When the weather is good, our field allows the children to be very active, but in winter we are forced to compromise on statutory PE lessons as well as the additional sugar tax recommendation of half an hour a day of exercise.
Participation in sport has been proven to have enormous and lasting effects on personal health and well being, so this facility will enable us to provide a wider range of experiences and opportunities to be active, and in return, raise aspirations and achievement.
We had originally hoped that the facility could be shared with other community groups, but due to planning restrictions, we can no longer do that or secure grant funding specifically aimed at community use. However, we will appeal this decision as we believe it would be an amazing asset for the local community, and it will be the only one of its kind in the area.”
The MUGA area measures approximately 20 meters by 37 meters, and the canopy structure means that it can be used throughout the year, in most weather conditions. It will also be completely level and therefore suitable for ball games such as football, netball, tennis and hockey.
This Crowdfunder appeal forms part of the school's own fundraising efforts which have enabled us to get the works underway. We have set aside money from the school’s delegated funds and used money received from Sports Premium funding. The children have also carried out their own various fundraising activities over the past year, raising over £6,000 from events including a sponsored sports day, a fun run, school performances and from selling items made by the children.
How you can help:
Please support our fundraising. We truly believe that every donation will make a difference. Your donations will be a massive support for us, as we have used as much of the school budget as we can safely do without it affecting the children’s learning.
PLEDGE YOUR DONATION and spread the word to your friends, family and business contacts by email and social media (Facebook, Instagram, twitter, etc). Please also share with local community groups and anyone else you know with their own online audience such as bloggers, vloggers, etc.
Thank you for your support.
