I started company last October with help from Invest NI Innovation Vouchers to produce clothing for children on austistic spectrum. I worked with Belfast Met and we produced five prototypes, school shirts, school trousers, t-shirt, jogging bottoms and a hoodie. We tested them, met with focus groups and we were often invited to schools to talk and let them see prototypes. They proved very popular with many wanting them for their children starting school in September. Company not a year old yet, and we have come to so far which has been driven by parents as much as myself. I had been asked a lot about socks as parents paying a lot to get the socks from America. I brought some in and was able to sell them slightly cheaper so they no longer had to pay exhorbitent postage fees. The reason for this page is to enable me to order larger amounts and thus get a better price for parents and to be able to have all prototypes manufactured. We have recieved no funding as yet and have used savings to bring it to this point.
Now we need to get them manufactured and be able to order in quantities to make items cheaper. There are over 700,000 people in UK on spectrum and in Southern Ireland it is one in every hundred. There are 2.1 million families affected. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with cancer or Downs Syndrome.
See attached VIDEO.
Our eventual aim is to not only produce clothing for children and adults on the ASD spectrum, but also to employ them in the eventual company in order to give ownership; "Made in Belfast, by people with Autism for people with Autism.
I would like eveyone to take one vital piece of information from this page and it is, If you meet one person with autism, you have met one person with autism. They are as diverse as any other group of children. I do a blog on my webpage and always finish it with a Kirsty Quote from my beautiful daughter so apt to finish this with same
