After a successful pilot, we are now launching the Spear Programme in Islington.
We have established Spear Islington to help disadvantaged young people find full-time and sustainable employment. The Programme is based in Islington because whilst there are pockets of affluence, it is also a borough where 1/3 of children live in poverty!
We work with 16–24 year olds, many of whom left school without qualifications, come from a household of long-term unemployment, don’t have a permanent home, or may have a criminal record. All will lack confidence and self-belief.
The training programme involves 6 weeks of intensive coaching followed by a year of in-work support. Our goal is that 12 months following the start of the Programme, over 75% of these young adults will still be in work, in line with the track record of Spear in other Boroughs.
Spear Islington will significantly impact the lives of 90 young people each year. Beyond these 90 individuals are their friends and families, the local businesses we are working with and the local community. Ultimately, Spear Islington will help to improve community integration and cohesion.
This year-long, free-of-charge opportunity will not only enable these young adults to acquire job skills but will importantly give them a sense of self-worth: igniting a vision of the possible.
It costs £1,500 to fund a young person through this life-changing Programme. Our total target is £25,000 which represents one cohort of young people.
Our parent charity, Resurgo Trust, is an award-winning charity operating across 8 other centres in London and has helped 4,000 people over its twelve year history. We are replicating the model to expand into Islington where there is a clear social need.
We are applying to raise money from companies and trust funds. However, we need this initial funding boost to fully launch the programme.
All money raised will all the money raised goes directly to supporting the young people!
We are approaching friends asking them to support this important work and to share this link with their friends to build a network of supporters.
