We are currently in the early stages of planning for a new cafe situated in Newcastle-Under-Lyme town centre. The cafe will support children, predominantly those with disabilities or additional needs and their parents. Coming from a background of education and children with additional needs, it became apparent the lack of sociable spaces in the community that are accessible and provide adaptations for everyday activities such as crafts, gaming, music and art. We also noticed that it may be difficult for parents of children with additional needs to find time to socialise and unwind in a location where they know their child will be looked after. This brought about the idea of a cafe, with qualified staff members, all of which have experience working with children with disabilities, to create a safe, welcoming and friendly environment.
We are looking to collaborate with local businesses and charities, to provide specialist days such as first aid training for parents, relax and unwind parent nights and a variety of events suitable for children of all abilities. In order to begin the adventure, we require funding to cover start up costs. The money will assist in purchasing specialist equipment and furnishings.
