I'm part of the early years team, in a reception class at Runwell Community Primary School. Currently a quarter of the outside area is inaccessible unless we have a couple of good weeks of weather as it is a water logged grass area.
My vision is to turn it into a recycled play area with sensory aspects for our SEN children which will also support the wellbeing of all the children.
With some hard work and unwanted items it will be an area of role play, planting, exploring, discovery and interactive art.
Old tyres for planters with vegetables in. Discarded trees and branches for zoning areas along with a recycled sculpture and bench. Recycled tyre chippings to replace the muddied grass making it accessible all year round and giving a textural, sensory element. A step up sensory volcano world on old pallets. Large ferns for enclosing space and adding a natural resource to play around. Large tree stumps for a climbing aspect and bug hunting.
The money raised will go to funding the weed membrane, tyre chippings and wooden sculpture/bench along with a couple dinosaur toys and some soil. All the rest I can source/make for free. All the labour will be done by myself and any other enthusiastic LSA's I can convince to join in.
