'There is a wealth of research that highlights the impact of gardening on mental health and wellbeing. It allows young people the opportunity to connect with nature and to be in the moment, provides physical exercise and provides a sense of purpose and achievement. It can also provide an opportunity to socialise through young people working together to grow plants and vegetables which can then be used in other activities like cooking.’
