An online radio station for West Sussex and beyond
in 2013, I began volunteering under the name Southwaves Radio, talking to local businesses at events and communicating with local people. As someone with Aspergers syndrome, this is sometimes a challenge for me. I then progressed the project and this is the result. I hope people will get behind it. Jamie, Station Manager
The purpose of this project is to give an alternative to the other stations that are out there. We want to serve the local community of West Sussex with a mixture of the arts, audio drama, sports coverage, local business coverage and music. We also understand that as an online station, there will be a large amount of listeners from elsewhere, hence why we've come with "out of town Tuesday's and Thursday's", entertainment aimed at those audiences.
Also with the project, we want to encourage people who perhaps have trouble with confidence or communication. as an aspie, our station manager found his voice by doing radio, and thinks others should have that opportunity.
So to summarise, here are a list of goals for the station.
To promote local business
to promote local music and events.
to cover a selection of local events
to encourage and give opportunities to other
to be open to other areas
to give local sports coverage by local people.
to provide arts and entertainment, some in the specialist category.
lastly, we want to point out the reason for the amount of money we require. As the station will be online with no dedicated studio, the only funds we require at present are for the licensing, server and some outside equipment. If the demand is much greater than anticipated, we will consider a larger option.
