We are raising funds to continue our community work which includes providing free school meals, a free food bank and much more!

by Southampton Angel in Southampton, England, United Kingdom

During the two lock downs we have spent our time at The Angel doing our best to help the local community.

During the first lock down we decided to run a free service where we would collect and deliver groceries and essentials for members of the community in high risk categories.

When the panic buying descended we bought over £1,000 of toilet paper, rice and other staples, which we delivered free of charge to vulnerable members of the community who couldn't get them any other way.

We provided free hot meals to those who were genuinely struggling to feed themselves.

We provided a series of free music lessons and other educational material to help children, and adults, stay sane during the enforced isolation....

...we carried these on during the brief period Boris let us open again...

During the second lock down we ran the same programs as during the first with one notable difference!

Boris Johnson decided in his wisdom that Food Banks were 'non essential' businesses and WILL close during the lock down... we all know that Boris has never needed a food bank but sadly quite a lot of people rely on them!

We ran a completely free, anonymous food bank delivery service to our entire community that would normally use the government funded food banks!

We received no funding for this... we didn't expect any and we didn't ask for any... everything was paid for by the owner of the business... we never ask for or expect any thanks.

Currently there is a scheme where if we raise £5,000 the crowdfunding company has funds to double the amount to £1000!

This crowdfund is set up so that we can get that £10,000 and use it to extend the back of our venue and buy some second hand music equipment. In this space we plan on offering affordable music lessons to the local community, money raised from lessons will then be used to fund FREE music lessons for children who might otherwise not be able to afford to learn a lesson.

In helping us now you are directly helping us to improve OUR local community... thank you for reading this and stay safe in these most testing of times.
