My name is Abigail Owen, I am a third-year paramedic student studying at Bournemouth university. Becoming a Paramedic has been my ambition since a very early age; I was inspired by growing up with a sister who had severe cerebral palsy and epilepsy and admiring the work of healthcare professionals.
It is a wonderful privilege to be so close to finally reaching my aim. I have thoroughly enjoyed both the academic and practical aspects of my course, using every opportunity to better myself as an individual. Subsequently, I have been successful in being selected to travel to Cape Town, South Africa to do a 3-week placement there along with three of my peers.
The placement occurs in partnership with Stellenbosch University in South Africa but is not funded by them or Bournemouth University. I am writing to you today to ask if you would generously consider funding or part-funding this placement. As you can imagine the financial cost of such a placement is a significant burden for a student.
I believe the experiences I have in South Africa will be very rewarding for both my development and the development of my skills as a paramedic in our National Health Service Trusts.
Any contributions would be gratefully received.
