Epistrophe Smith is asking you to help fund his unique live silent film score project.
About the project
This project is not just about funding an album or tour, this is the whole package. A film score performed live is a truly unique spine tingling experience, something that won’t be forgotten. The beauty of a classic silent film given a new lease of life over 100 years later, brought up-to-date with an electronic soundtrack is something that simply has to be seen.
"To say this project means a lot is an understatement, it’s a life’s worth of practice, learning, and dreaming brought together in one single moment." - says Matt Deegan
Epistrophe Smith is a exciting electronic music producer based in Bristol, UK. Currently composing a contemporary electronic soundtrack to the classic 1914 silent film ‘Cabiria’ which he will be performing live to a screening of the film in two dates in October 2015. This wonderful performance will be recorded and filmed to create the aptly named album ‘Soundtrack for a Silent Film’.
Cabiria is directed by Giovanni Pastrone. It has been characterised as the first epic film ever made, and according to Martin Scorsese, saw the first use of the moving camera. The music of Epistrophe Smith has been described as: "electronica alive with ambition… [his music] wants to take you on a journey and play; and that’s what it does - with infectious curiosity" - Danny Balla.

Epistrophe Smith is created by Matt Deegan. Previously signed to Galaxy Records Matt has released his debut album ‘Boracay’ under the alias ‘Travellers Journal’. He has also worked as a session bassist and composed ‘Beginning’ for 70 piece symphony orchestra. He is a double bassist and composer who studied for a BA (Hons) in jazz at LCM, and Middlesex University. He will be studying for a masters in music composition at Bristol University this September.
What’s The Funding For?
He is looking for your help to fund travel and equipment hire costs of the live performance, mastering costs (bringing the audio to a professional level), and filming costs (hiring a professional to film the performance). Reaching the stretch target will mean being able to add session musicians (violin and cello) and advertising costs. We’d like to reassure you none of the money will go to buying music equipment or any music gadgets, and the money won’t be used for living expenses.
Believing enough to take a chance to pre-purchase an album or DVD is a game changer and something this project can’t do without. With your help we can bring this project to life, so why not become part of this wonderful concept and get involved.
EP Smith truly appreciates every pledge made and hopes you find value in this proposal.
