IMPORTANT NOTE: You must be a UK-registered voter to donate to this campaign. That's why we ask for your address. If you're not, we have to give your money back!

Something New is a start-up political party that's working towards a better UK democracy, fit for the 21st century. We believe the best things happen when we work together, and we've put this into action with our open source manifesto, which anyone can contribute to (even you!)

We're standing candidates in the local elections across the UK this May in order to keep moving that vision forward.

The Ambition

Last year, we promised ourselves we would stand local council candidates in May 2017. In order to make that ambition a reality, we need your help. We need to crowdfund the money to run our campaigns and make the biggest difference we can to our communities.

Our initial target is £600, enough to fully fund one local leaflet campaign, but the more money we raise, the greater our impact can be.

Party leader, James Smith, who will be standing in Horsham, said "I stood in Horsham in the 2015 general election, as it's  home and a place I deeply care about. We're taking our principles, and our manifesto, and applying them at a local level in this year's elections. To do this, we need to print leaflets & posters, buy online ads, and get the word out about the work we're trying to do. So, we need your help!"

The Candidates

We're aiming to field as many candidates as possible. We've already got four lined up, and we're still looking for volunteers to stand. We're standing candidates in Horsham, Lichfield, Bury St Edmunds, and hopefully more. Visit the election thread on our forum to find out the most up-to-date information!

If you're interested in standing yourself, or just in helping out, see our website: somethingnew.org.uk or talk to us on our forum: discourse.somethingnew.org.uk.

Your Money

We will allocate the money across the various candidates, but because we are unlikely to raise enough to fully fund campaigns for all of them, we will do some experiments with different ways of raising awareness for different candidates. That way, we take part in the elections, and also learn what we can do better for next time! All those decisions will be taken openly on our forum, of course.

Disclosure & Transparency

Your name and address will be checked against the electoral register to make sure that you are a UK voter. We will publish your name and the amount you donated in our open accounts.
