WHAT DO WE WANT DO?
We want to install solar panels at our clubhouse along with battery storage to allow us to become more sustainable and remain an integral part of the local community as we have been since 1884.
"As supplier costs increase year on year it is difficult to increase subscriptions in line with this. Over the last 18 months the club have installed a more efficient heating boiler, cellar system, had the roof repaired and changed internet provider – all actions taken to reduce costs. We have also been provided with funding to reduce water costs by installing better toilets and urinals.
The solar panels will enhance the work already undertaken and save further costs allowing us to focus on the objective of providing a quality service to the community at an affordable price." Nicola Sutcliffe, Honorary Secretary.
WHY DO WE WANT TO DO IT?
For many reasons...
- Any savings in our energy bills will be reinvested into grassroots cricket - helping us to improve our facilties and purchase more equipment. We hope that the improved equipment we can buy with savings made will help us to retain members and attract many more to the club.
- Our hire fees can be kept to a minimum which will encourage more people/groups to use our facilities.
- Savings will allow us to open longer into the off season. We recently fundraised to buy a pool table which has proved really popular with seniors, juniors and visitors during the season.
"We really enjoy coming up on a Friday to play pool and meet with friends and hope that if the club can save money they will be able to open longer" Will & Jack, U17s cricketers. .

WHEN DO WE WANT TO DO IT?
We need your vote to make our dream a reality.
Established in 1884, we are a not for profit sports club which provides training and playing opportunities in cricket for men, women and children in Calderdale. We manage to meet our annual costs each year but struggle to fund capital replacements and improvements so we are continually looking at ways to fundraise in order to improve our facilities and equipment to give everyone the best experience possible
"As a parent of a young cricketer at Stones Cricket club I am fully behind their bid to install Solar PV on the club house. As someone who has Solar PV on my home and was involved in the industry for over 6 years I fully appreciate the benefits that a solar PV system will give to the club... such a system has minimal upkeep and running costs allowing the majority of the monetary benefits to be reinvested in the club facilities.
In addition a Solar PV system will give all members and especially the younger age groups a positive message that it is important to conserve our natural resources and will prove to be an educational talking point" GR, Parent of U13 Cricketer
In addition to playing cricket, our clubhouse allows us to organise and host functions and events throughout the season ensuring that the social element of the club is developed and that our membership continues to grow. After this year's season we are starting a Tuesday afternoon club for those over 60 in the community to help reduce isolation and loneliness and we hope that the reduced overheads will allow us to extend our opening times in general and put on more events that are open to the wider community such as our popular family fun days.
By giving us your vote we will be able to reinvest in the sport and encourage more people to get involved with cricket and our club for many years to come. Please vote for our project- it really does mean a lot!
Alongside trying to secure as many votes as possible we are working with Crowdfunder to try and raise extra funds for our project. We hope that we will be successful in our bid and can then use any additional funds to carry out a much needed upgrade our changing facilities in line with our energy efficient plans.
Any amount you donate will be gratefully received and a donation of £25 or more will see your name on our new 'Sustainability for Stones CC' board to be situated in the clubhouse.
Please dig deep to help us achieve our goal for the club.
