I am Gladys Mapanda CEO/Founder of ERWA (Empowered Ready Women Association). I have worked as a volunteer with different charities. After going through a challenging time in 2009,I saw a need in our community for the support that I needed which was not through doctors or therapists but a community that rallies behind you until you found your footing again. So 2016 I started ERWA. I am supported by 4 women who find time in their busy schedule to meet and help me as we build a network of women who will be the pillars in their homes and community.
By creating the Snack and Chat, ERWA aims to provide women with an oasis to meet in a relaxed atmosphere so they can unwind, inspire each other by sharing stories and ideas. ERWA's vision is to see more Snack and Chat places created in various communities and assisting women to get back on their feet and start living again without resorting to prescriptions.
ERWA wants to bring community unity instead individualism which has been brought in by how society lives.
The money will be used to hire permanent drop in places, refreshments, equipment for educational and training , invitation of speakers, short trips etc the list is not limited. ERWA is about being ready and willing so some of the activities will be decided by the participants as they should be involved in playing a bigger part in the way their lives would go.
ERWA is about sharing experiences. Before being depressed became like a fashion statement and loosely said, before the dolling of prescriptions what did people do? How do the people in the other parts of the world where there is no NHS do when faced with life’s challenges. I grew up in a country where there was no NHS but the community of elders helped during any life crisis and it helped emotionally and the mentall state.
