I have known the group leader Kosal since 2003 when I found him begging, as a poor disabled boy, in Kampong Chhnang Fish-Market in Cambodia. Even then he was plucky, attracting money by singing to entertain the vendors and customers. We brought him in to our UK charity project to take English and Computer classes with similar children living with disability and pronounced social disadvantage. He was a very late developer but eventually blossomed in advocacy and his singing helped by a stint with renowned NGO EpicArts. He also entered local politics with the main Opposition party, accompanying Vice President Mu Sochua to her rallies and entertaining supporters. Although his political ambitions were thwarted in 2018, his social conscience has not been dimmed. He set up his own community-based group in a rural part of Battambang province to replicate exactly his experience with us for children from poor backgrounds. He tells their story in his Facebook page which is the mains source of funds raised, so far tiny and modest compared to the big more familiar NGOs.
