Unexpected Item - New Dance Performance

SLiDE is bringing together a diverse group of local people to create a new dance performance piece for Selsdon Community Centre.

We did it!

On 19th Nov 2013 we successfully raised £575 of £550 target with 20 supporters in 28 days

What is "Unexpected Item"?

Unexpected Item is the name of our new dance piece for Selsdon Community Centre, to celebrate it's new life! Unexpected Item will draw it's inspiration from the groups and places surrounding the Community Centre - a Centre for the Retired, a library and a supermarket!

The cast will consist of members of the local community of all ages and abilities, facilitated by Anita and Gemma (SLiDE) who are experienced dance artists. We will explore the unexpected things in our lives - hidden joys and forgotten memories - to create a unique performance journey for our audience.

Unexpected Item is also a larger project, with a range of activities, allowing the whole community to engage with the Project in different ways:

Without your help, we will, literally, be dancing in the dark!Who are SLiDE? And what else have you done?SLiDE makes space for people to explore dance, through workshops, performances and community projects.Your money is in very good hands. We have already devised and delivered successful community arts projects in South London. We have created new work with a range of participants for South Norwood Arts Festival, Croydon Youth Service and Thornton Heath Festival. In 2012 we were awarded a small grant from the Arts Council to create a piece for Purley Arts Festival. In July 2013 we created Park Life which was a collaboration between SLiDE and CALAT (Croydon Adult Learning and Training). We worked with 20 people from Croydon in an intensive creative week leading to a site-specific performance in South Norwood Country Park. The piece was seen by over 70 people including the Mayor of Croydon!

Unexpected Item will continue the aim of SLiDE: to ignite collaborations between different people and organisations through the arts. We are passionate about bringing people of all ages and abilities together to make new and exciting performance work, and we really value your support.
