My name is Rachel and I will be completing a 15,000 foot tandem skydive in order to raise money for Police Officers and Ex Police Officers who suffer from psychology illness.
This is a cause close to my heart and a challenge that will push me out if my comfort zone in order to help others.
I will self fund the jump however all money raised will go towards an awesome tall ship sailing voyage planned for August 2019 designed for Police/Ex Police suffering with PTSD and this is linked with the charity Safe Horizon UK.
Safe Horizon UK aims to provide and develop recovery programmes for police officers and their families who suffer the effects of PTSD, anxiety and depression. Many find that even with treatment, symptoms persist and they are challenged to find ways to manage and cope daily with psychological injury. Some officers become very isolated.
This voyage will challenge the group to cook, eat, sleep and live together in limited space and work together as a crew for one week. They will learn new skills on board and rediscover their capabilities, as well as develop coping strategies for being in a group environment. Social skills and trust in others may have been lost to these injuries. Individuals will prove to themselves that they can reconnect with people and community, that they can cope with anxiety and stress (rather than avoid challenging situations), that they haven’t got to remain ‘stuck’ in their suffering and they can find a way to move forwards. Those who experience dissociation can reconnect with their physical self and learn to be present in the moment.
Mental Health in Policing can be overlooked and approximately one Officer every 2-3 weeks dies from suicide in England and Wales alone.
I would very much appreciate your support and I thank you in advance for your donations, no matter how little or large!
