I arrived in the UK in 1996 and  was full of energy and ready to make my mark!  

I am originally from the tiny island of Dominica in the Caribbean and miss the sunshine and the sea immensely.  In my attempt to share my  love for the Caribbean culture I started my business which I hoped would keep me forever linked to my roots.  I envisaged it would also give me the opportunity to support the Dominican Conservation Association which is responsible for protecting the Sisserou Parrot and its habitat.

My brand Sisserou was initially launched in 1999 and I faced numerous challenges in taking the product to market.  The drinks market is dominated by the "big boys" who don't want "little girls" to play!    After about 4/5 years of trading I was forced to stop.  

I relaunched the brand in 2015 with new packaging and new producers, with the help of financing from 2 friends.  Social media coupled with new innovative ways of raising finance are now making it easier for smaller players like myself to run successful businesses.  Crowdfunder is a prime  example of how different ways of raising finance are giving smaller businesses a chance.

Since the relaunch the brand has won a bronze medal at the International Spirits Challenge 2016 in the liqueurs and specialities category.

2016 was a good year and for which I must thank all my customers and supporters! 

The brand is targeted at the consumer looking for something different and interesting!  It offers a high quality, premium product to both rum and liqueur lovers.

With an  ABV of 19% it is less sweet than most available cream liqueurs- It is drunk on its own, over ice or in cocktails. A Virgin Sisserou- just on its own over ice is my favourite way of having it!

Sisserou is manufactured for me by an established  UK manufacturer.  We sell through wholesalers to the on-trade and also through independent retail outlets; mainly in East Anglia and London.  Consumer exhibitions, where we sell direct to customers have been very good for creating awareness of the brand.

It's been a challenge keeping up with consumer demand for the product.  This crowdfunding campaign will help us to meet consumer demand.  In 2016 we ran out of stock before Christmas!  We don't want to let our customers down this year! 

 £1 of every recipe book sold will go towards charities working with disadvantaged children in Dominica and preserving the habitat of the Sisserou parrot.
