Sheriff is a 7-minute graduation film shooting in Norwich. It is about brotherhood, innocence, and the absence of father figures.

Sheriff - A Short Film

I have created this campaign to secure additional funding to help cover the costs of my graduation film, 'Sheriff' that I am writing, directing and producing.

Joshua is a quirky child obsessed with old Western films. One day his usual viewing is interrupted by his older brother Matthew, who's been forced to take him to the local shops by their mother. The pair leave a broken home behind them as they set off together, but Joshua's decision to bring their absent father's old revolver with him threatens to turn his Wild West fantasies into a reality as he finds himself in a stand-off with the shopkeeper.

The film deals with the concept of brotherhood and what it means to make your way in the world without a father figure. It also looks at what happens to the innocence of youth when forced to grow up too soon. It is a social realist piece with a Western spin and a black comedy twist.

What We Need & What You Get

Your support would help me to:

  • Cast quality actors for longer periods of time
  • Shut down a public location to safely film there
  • Buy better quality costumes and props
  • Cover film festival submission costs

You could get:

  • A 'Special Thanks' film credit
  • A Sheriff poster
  • A Sheriff script signed by cast & crew
  • An 'Executive Producer' film credit

We are hoping to reach our goal of £750, but if we don't quite manage this all funds will be spent in order of importance - every penny helps!

Meet The Crew

James L. Adams - Writer, Director, Producer, Editor

Hey, I'm James. My crew and I are all third year Film Production students at Norwich University of the Arts. I am the writer, director, producer, and editor of this film. I have written and directed several projects before and dabbled in editing for music videos, but this is my first time producing!

The story I'm telling is deeply important to me and something I want to share with the world. With your help, we could make this film the best it can be! The brotherhood and male role model themes speak to me in particular, as both a twin and the youngest of three.

James T. Coy - Director of Photography

Hi, I'm James and I am the Director of Photography for this film. I have specialised as a DoP for 3 years now and am honing my craft in order to deliver fantastic visuals that not only look great but also aid the narrative and the emotion in Sheriff. I will be using Canon Cinema cameras as well as their Cine Lens range in order to create a cinematic look across the entire film.

Amanda Wheeler - Production Designer

Hello, I’m Amanda! I’m going to be head of production design and costume. I’m very excited to be working with and developing such an emotive character such as Joshua and look forward to bringing his inner cowboy to life! This will all be contrasted with the emotive narrative of Joshua’s circumstances and will be interesting for me to incorporate a child’s innocent fantasy life into it through costume and set design.

Sean Goddard - Sound Designer

My name is Sean and I will be the sound recorder and designer on Sheriff. Sound is an area of film that's always fascinated me and is something I've had a chance to work on in quite a few projects, so it's always fun to get back in the saddle (excuse the lame pun)! My work on set will involve recording high quality audio to accompany the visuals of the film and more, including dialogue and various sound effects. I will then be working in post-production to assemble and fine tune the various layers of sound as well as recording Foley in the studio, to create an authentic soundscape that enhances the viewing experience of the film.

Damla Duru - Co-Editor

I'm excited to work on James' film because of the room for creative input. I also personally love the story and really believe the final outcome will be something special!
