I worked in Epukiro in the Omaheke region of Namibia earlier this year and had the pleasure of getting to know the local San Bushmen community. I was struck by how similar we are in the western world to the people of this ancient tribe. We share the same human qualities, both the good and the bad: Ambition, humour, pride, kindness, addiction, curiosity, greed. Recognising these similarities between us makes it more difficult to accept the inequalities present. In many ways they are lucky not to be driven in their lives by money and materialism. However, their lack of wealth means many of them cannot afford basic living conditions.
Whilst working in the clinic we were able to provide funding for an elderly couple to purchase basic materials in order to build a simple shelter. This christmas we hope to raise enough money for two further families to do the same. The money will be given directly to the council in Epukiro who helped with the last project and they will decide who receives the donations according to need.
The website charges 14% per donation so please email me directly on firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to donate and I will send you my bank details separately. I will keep everyone informed of how we are getting on!
Thanks for your help and Happy Christmas!!
