Oral history is the recording of memories; it is the living history of everyone's unique life experiences. We want to speak to women who live or have lived in Sheffield in order to collect and preserve their stories. We believe that collecting women's oral histories can give a voice to those traditionally silenced in narratives of the past. This collection of history will be stored in the Sheffield Feminist Archive collection at Sheffield Archives. This archive will be accessible to all members of the public and to researchers who want to find out about the experiences of the women of Sheffield.
This project is completely run by our enthusiastic volunteers. We've had a modest grant from Sheffield City Council but we are in desperate need of more funds. One of our main fundraising priorities is to fund transcripts of these interviews for use by researchers and the public.
This is a very special project and will be one of the first of its kind in the UK. Anything you donate will help to make this archive as wide-ranging, dynamic and accessible as possible.
