I'm raising funds to take up a place I've been offered on a Summer Shakespeare course at the London Academy of Music and Drama ( LAMDA).
I am a Zimbabwean who has been living on the Isle of Man for 11years. I have been studying acting for some time and for the past three years I have belonged to Actor Tribe, studying with Lee Boardman and Sally Carman. This was a massive commitment as it involved travelling from the Isle of Man to Manchester every weekend. However, the rewards in terms of new skills learned and inspiration has been invaluable. We got to work with tutors such as Rob Morris, Jenny Boardman, Suranne Jones, Sally Lindsay, Graeme Hawley, Peter Kay, Chris Robert, Adam Zane, writer Anne Marie O’Connor, directors Lesley Manning and Paul Norton Walker. I also studied with Karen Henthorn at MAP.
Much of my study at Actor Tribe was in screen acting, but I was given an opportunity to spend a term working on Lady Macbeth’s Act One Soliloquy, which Lee filmed to go towards my showreel. As a result I am keen to extend my understanding of Shakespearean acting. My ambition is to work in professional theatre and in Shakespearean drama particularly. The course at LAMDA will cover the practical skills and techniques necessary to perform Shakespeare’s work. Acting, pure movement, physical theatre, stage combat, historical dance, Alexander Technique and singing. Plus, we will receive specialist lectures focusing on textual analysis and historical background in order to understand the social and historical context of Shakespeare’s writing.
The total amount I need to raise is £4157.
(Course fees - £2699
Student Accommodation for 4 weeks - £1178
Food and Travel at £10/day - £280)
Any contribution you may be able to offer me would be so gratefully received. It means a great deal to me to be able to take this course to hopefully move me closer towards my dream of becoming a classical actress.
