You ladies are so inspiring, I wish you the best of luck with your project, it is so vital for young people to have the knowledge and support they may not receive at home.
I have a firm belief that sex ed is crucial to establish a new culture in relationships, based on respect, consent, understanding your feelings, desires and boundaries and negotiate them with your partner with openness and trust. As a young woman, I felt I lacked these things in my teens and had to navigate the complex emotional issues of sexuality on my own. It took me years just to learn how to talk about these issues without circling around the subject. I believe that sex ed can be an empowering tools for girls and can help redefine masculinity in a more open and caring way. I am not from the UK, but I believe this issue is common to much of the Western world - and beyond that - and I'm willing to put my money behind my words, hoping that at least somewhere we can make progress.
It is essential that children and young people get good quality sex and relationship education because this is such an important part life. Denying children and young people knowledge send the idea that sex is shameful. Abusers hide under cover of this wall of embarrassment and shame because prevents sensible discussion of the issue of consent.
