Chaplins & The Cellar Bar is part of a national initiative launched by Music Venue Trust to prevent the closure of hundreds of independent music venues.

Hi Everyone its Harry here, I have been invited to take part in the #saveourvenues campaign to save Grassroots Music Venues across the country. As you know Chaplins has been at the forefront of local live music in dorset and has been recognised for its 7 day a week programme of free live music nationally on several occaisions (its this years Best Pub for Entertainment in the UK).  Asking for help, particularly financially, is difficult for me as we have always done everything ourselves, no bank loans no grants, just passion and hard work. But due to the corona virus situation we are in the impossible position of being unable to trade at all but still having significant costs. I estimate our running costs are between £2,000-£2,500 a week, , we have not been able to claim on our insurance and our rent still has to be paid, unfortunately we had started on building our restauarant in January which has left us depleted as well.  We also have significant creditors to be paid, with the PRS asking for £8,000 ( that really annoys me). Following some comments i would like to update that the PRS have delayed asking for the money during lockdown but will be pursuing the full amount (less the amount for the period it was closed) once the venue reopens.

I personally cannot forsee us being able to open before September and who knows what social distancing rules will have to be adhered to, the future is very uncertain. But we will have to adapt and forge ahead. I love BOSCOMBE and we have kept Boscombe at the heart of Dorset's live music scene, I have put a lot of spare time into trying to help improve the area and I still am despite having to concentrate on Chaplins.

I know The Lockdown has hurt many people financially and i understand it may not be possible to donate anything but even if you can spare the price of a pint or two it will really help us in the weeks and months ahead.  Any donations raised will be used to ensure the business is still here to employ our 28 staff and to welcome the many hundreds of people who come to enjoy the space and the music, we will pay our rent and plan to reopen in a proper fashion once we know the guidelines we will have to adhere to. I, and all the staff, at Chaplins thank you for any support you give us now, and for all the support you have given over the years. We also thank all the many artists and musicians who have played over the years and if any want to get involved in any fundraising please get in touch through our facebook or email. Vivien Hoffman is working on producing a range of original artworks to put on tea towels and tote bags and tee-shirts, to help Chaplins raise money and we will let you know as soon as we can get them printed.

I will do everything in  my power to  make sure we make it through this and continue doing what we do because i believe what we do is important and adds value to society both locally,  nationally and internationally

If we hit our target, and we can prevent the closure of our venue, everything above the amount we need will be donated to the Music Venue Trust GMV Crisis Fund to protect other venues just like ours, right across the country.

Take care everyone, look after yoursleves and we will see you on the other side of the lockdown.
