Save Gaby's Deli

by randal63 in London

We did it
On 19th June 2012 we successfully raised £348 with 24 supporters in 60 days

Gaby's Deli, 30 Charing Cross Rd, is threatened with closure by the landlords who wish to develop the space for a chain restaurant. We have been running a low-budget, high impact campaign against this threat. We have already had some success, with a stay of execution for 5 months at least. But we need a bit more money to continue the campaign, which is why I am appealling to you now. We believe that Gaby's Deli should be saved for several reasons including: 1) Gaby's is a great little place, with a comfortable atmosphere in central London to meet friends for a cheap bit ewhile you do other things in town; 2) the food on offer is unique - great falafel, salt beef, latkes and cheesecake are just some of the headliners - and that should be preserved in the area; and 3) Gaby's represents diversity in the retail and restaurant offer of central London. The closure of fother little gems - New Piccadilly, Cafe Centrale etc - marks a move towards a less interesting and attractive offer. Without it, central London is a less attractive place for people to visit. With improved offers outside central London these changes can result in the slow death of the centre of the city - which none of us want. We are running an online petition, FB page and so far 4 Cabaret Falafels. The online petition includes costs and there are costs incurred - albeit small - for each of the cabarets. In order to keep getting the word out and building our case with the Marquess of Salisbury (the landlord) we need a little bit of financial support. I hope you can help out. Thanks Randal and the campaign team. http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-gaby-s-deli-charing-cross-road-london/signatures.html http://www.facebook.com/save.gabys.deli
