New stretch target

We have been delighted by the speed at which people have taken up our bid to help repair our wonderful edition of Ulysses. There are thousands of other book in the Library that need a little love and care, so we stretching our bid to £300. The extra money we accrue will be dedicated to the repair of our collection of works by Voltaire.

Project aim

Help The Portico Library to restore this first edition copy of Ulysses by James Joyce.

About the project

The Portico Library is a strong proponent of the printed word and of the salvation of our cultures' printed texts. Books are of great importance, both as historic documents and as objects imbued with memory and meaning. People adopt books for different reasons, but most often it is because a particular book has some special significance in their own life-story and to play a part in the preservation of that text is a way of sustaining a history that is important to them.

We are offering the opportunity to contribute to the salvage of a first edition volume of Ulysses by James Joyce. Each person to make a contribution will have their name credited on a plate in the book, thus entering your name into the annals of history at The Portico Library!

The Portico has lots of wonderful volumes that we plan to restore and you can find out more information here: http://www.theportico.org.uk/library/adopt-a-book
