£10,000 will allow us to buy one acre of land in the UK on which we can plant 500 trees! These trees will offset 500 tonnes of carbon by the time they are 40 years old.
Carbon is one of the most important greenhouse gases contributing to climate change and trees offer an opportunity to store this Carbon for long periods considering their long life-span. Furthermore, trees create carbon-rich ecosystems which store carbon in leaves and fine roots that later fall off and become Carbon-rich organic matter in litter and soil.
Planting trees offers many other benefits, which can be referred to as ‘’co-benefits”. These include reducing erosion, creating natural wind barriers, providing habitats, and improving the local climate, air filtration, and shade provision.
In order for our planet to survive we need to reduce our carbon emissions and reverse the damage we've already done to nature. Planting trees won't solve the problem but it's a big step in the right direction.
Once we've planted one acre we'll plant another and another, help us make a difference and save our planet!
