Heritage matters - and what better way to preserve todays transport heritage than to acquire this commemorative liveried bus for the Charity

by Nottingham Heritage Vehicles in

As a Charity we have developed a good selection of examples of road-transport vehicles from the East Midlands area, for future generations to enjoy. These are lovingly restored, nurtured and maintained, entirely by volunteers  at our working heritage transport depot in Nottingham. This is, in itself, based in an old 1936 art deco style bus garage in Hucknall. We work with disadvantaged people, the unemployed, the skilled, the beginners, the lonely and isolated, the retired and generally anyone from any background with an interest in being part of a good natured, productive and engaging team to develop the Charity projects, whilst bringing out the very best in themselves. 1537516246_DSC_6868.JPG

We display these vehicles free of charge wherever and whenever we can, to engage as much as possible with our supporters and the public at large. We do not have any barriers to involvement or engagement. Being part of the Nottingham community is so important to us, as is developing enthusiasm and interest within other people, by being part of our ongoing projects and work. We encourage all to join us and develop new skills, friends and even necessary experience to assist in entering the job market or overcoming personal difficulties.1537516257_DSC_6830.JPG

We have rescued vehicles from fields in Kent and dragged historic relics out of scrap yards. We work as a team to restore examples deemed to be beyond economic repair yet holding historical heritage value. We work with people and our local communities contantly, to unite in producing something spectacular for future generations and ourselves to enjoy, whilst at the same time uniting the community members, irrespective of their backgrounds, into achieving something positive with their time and efforts. 1537516292_DSC_5507.JPG

This appeal is directed to helping us towards a shortfall of £15,000 to purchase this very special vehicle. Adorned in a unique commemorative livery by Nottingham City Transport to celebrate the anniversary of the trolleybus withdrawal and latterly to mark the passing of 140 years of the company, we feel it is a fantastic example of how public transport has evolved. It also acts as a reminder to those who remember the trolleybuses, enabling us to use the vehicle in our planned reminiscence projects which will further assist the Charity to engage with older people throughout the city. Lets unite the people of Nottingham through heritage links, by giving this vehicle a home and then developing a network of members to work with it, promoting and enhancing knowledge of our heritage whilst improving skills, experience and confidence along the way.1537516317_DSC_2656.JPG

The vehicle is in tip-top condition mechanically and externally, with a little tidying required onboard - as you would expect from a bus that has served Nottingham well for a number of years. To be in a position to add this fine example to our display fleet whilst it is still in this condition is important to us, as we feel restoring one in years to come through the non-availability of moulded body parts and glazing will be an issue before even assessing the expense. 1537516335_DSC_4435.JPG

Being a vehicle of a low-floor design, this particular vehicle would be a brilliant example for the Charity to acquire, meaning we can engage with ease with the disabled members of our community. It is fully DDA compliant, thus it is fitted with an access ramp and wheelchair space. The public of Nottingham have already gelled well with the vehicle as it has operated throughout Nottingham, on several routes, for many months in commercial service. It has formed a bond with many members of the public throughout this period. We would love to keep that bond alive and develop the nostalgia it evokes.

Please help us to add this Nottingham Bus to our heritage transport collection. This will mean that it will be publicly owned by the Charity from that point forward - FOR ALL TO ENJOY for many years to come.

We have a limited time to secure your support and make our target, so please help us on our way and spread the word whilst we travel this journey. Get onboard with us today and be part of our fantastic team of supporters.
