For 43 years, Boughton Pocket Park is funded and cared for by a volunteer committee of local villagers since. Funds are normally raised throughout the year with small events, however, the main fundraising event is the Boughton Pocket Park Bonfire and Fireworks Display in November. This is normally attended by 2000 people whose support is critical to the fundraising efforts.
This year's event is canceled due to Covid-19. This will devastate the funds and leave us with nothing. The funds are required urgently to maintain the park and keep the equipment safe for the visitors and children who use the park on a daily basis.
The very sad fact that has taken us down this road to crowdfunding, is that if the funds can not be generated, the park ultimately could be sold for development within 12-18 months.
This would be a travesty and leave the surrounding communities of Boughton, Buckton Fields, and Obelisk without a beautiful park to safely visit with their families to play, have picnics, or just spend a little time away from traffic and the noisy hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The yearly costs for the upkeep of the Park are £6300.00
This is made up of the following:
- Play Equipment Maintenance - £3000
- Grass Cutting - £2200
- RoSPA Inspection and Insurance - £700
- Sundries expenses - £500
If enough funds are raised and exceed this amount, we also have a requirement for the pond to be dredged which has been quoted at £5000.
This will help the pond area flourish and bring back the wildlife that used to inhabit this area.
Please help if you can.
Many thanks
The Volunteer Committee
