Did you know that each year between 80,000 and 120,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest in a public place in the UK, on average 270 of these are children and take place in schools.
Cardiac Arrest can affect anyone and everyone. Without question, speedy Defibrillation saves lives.
Young children are at risk of Cardiac Arrest as their hearts are still growing and developing strength. Having an AED on the school site would mean we are equipped to deal with this situation if needed. The AED could also be used by our local community and by Apex, our holiday club.
The only definitive treatment for a victim of Cardiac Arrest is effective CPR and early defibrillation, which must be administrated within 3-5 minutes following collapse, this boost survival chances from 6% to 74%.
By having the Automated External Defibrillator available this can help to cut the death toll no end and provide piece of mind knowing that we are equipped to save lives.
The amount we are trying to raise is £2000, this will fund the equipment and initial training. The school will donate £500.

The AED would be placed in an easy to reach location and is fully automatic, no specific training is needed to use the machine as it does most of the work and talks you through each step. We would hope we never have to use it, but it would be provide piece of mind for our parents, staff, Governors and Wider Community knowing that that it is available to use if needed in an emergency. We would register our AED with the local ambulance service so it could be used by the public in an emergency.
Following on from our Staff First Aid training, we can clearly see the life-saving potential a defibrillator could have for our school and local community.
