We are trying to raise money for 16 vulnerable girls school fees for the school year of 2019. The girls all live in a Safe House in Kenya.

The aim of our project is to raise awareness of sexual violence in Kenya and the work that Maisha Girls’s Safe house does to support young girls who have been abused at some point in their lives. We would love to raise enough money for the years school fees for each of the 16 girls who live at the Maisha Safe House.

Maisha Girls’ Safe House is a registered charitable trust which was founded in 2015 to respond to the epidemic of sexual violence towards young girls in Kenya.

The Safe House was created to be safe accommodation for girls and young women who cannot remain at home or are at risk of homelessness. This is because they have been or are “at risk” of being sexually abused.

Maisha (meaning ‘life’ in Swahili) currently homes 16 girls and young women aged between 1-20 years old. The project is the first of its kind in Kenya to support girls who have experienced sexual abuse at some point in their lives.

1 in 3 girls in Kenya will experience sexual abuse before the age of 18. Without education, it is highly unlikely that the girls will ultimately live a life free from abuse. In Kenya, over half of secondary school age girls are not enrolled in secondary education.  With an education, the opportunities of escaping the poverty,  and ending the cycle of abuse can become a reality.

Their are currently 16 girls living at the Maisha Safe House. These girls have worked hard and have overcome many challenges in the hopes of achieving better life for themselves and their children, through educational opportunities.

However, they cannot continue their journey without your support. Unfortunately Maisha relies entirely on the generosity of well-wishers to continue to support the girls. Staff are unpaid and all funds are spent entirely towards the girls education and educational resources, sanitary products, health care and insurance, food, rent of the shelter and transport.

The girls have until January 2019 to pay their school fees for the first term or else they will lose their places and will have to drop out of education. The amount needed for the year is £435 GBP each. You can help these girls by making a contribution and ensuring that they are able to reach their full potential.
