I am a Cheshire-based singer-songwriter, actress and holistic therapist. A multi hat wearing hustler with a love for the arts and healing.
As an actress I’ve worked for many years in television, film and theatre, working with some incredible people. I trained at the renowned Drama Centre London. Following my training I played Flick Mellor in the BAFTA-winning TV series Waterloo Road and continued to work in Television with my most recent role in BBC Casualty.
My years as an actress were very up and down, it’s a tough career, even when things seem to be going well, it can change at any moment. Throughout this time, I always had my music. I could channel whatever I was going through in my world, the feelings I was unable to articulate or even understand, into songs. Writing was a healing tool for me. I also found a love for writing through a character, it actually helped me connect with the part I was playing to get to the nook of their soul and find their truth.
My music always ran alongside the acting but tended to take a back-seat. Perhaps it took my ‘growing-up’ to re-discover a child-like sense of being brave to share. Singing my own music is an exposing of my core, there's nowhere to hide. I attended an amazing song-writing workshop run by Kathryn Williams and Samantha Parton a few years ago in Hebden Bridge which was really powerful, co-writing with some wonderful people there and learning some really helpful tips to cultivate the creative flow! I’m now ready to take a leap, this material which I’ve gathered over the years will be laid down in a concrete art form, recorded to be released from my metaphorical creative nest and fly out into the world. I would love and appreciate your help to give them wings to be heard.
What is my sound?
It’s tricky pinning down a genre, I’d like to be ‘unboxed’. The album may vary in tone but will be recorded in a stripped back authentic way with only real instruments.
Over the years my music has been described as combining ethereal folk with wry humour, with soothing undertones and bittersweet lyrics.
What others have said:
“Sadie charms and entrances all who have the pleasure of seeing her perform” Lynne Franks
“Sadie couldn’t be more of a hippy flower child if she lived in a commune in Woodstock – soulful voice and intricate guitar-picking” Sir Bob Geldof
The Project Aim:
My aim is to produce a collection of songs with the acoustic guitar and voice as the core part of each songs, featuring layers of vocal harmonies from my covers band partner Lauren Breckon, percussion from Dan J Logan (who is also the producer), lead guitar from my boyfriend Marcus Wheeldon. I would love to add a layer of Bass, Cello and a Male vocalist harmony on certain songs too.
I've had rehearsals and meetings with Dan, the producer, so most of the prep work has been done, the songs are ready to be recorded with perhaps a few final tweaks on the day!
A bit of background on a few of the tracks.
Wild At Heart, was more recently written as a project to create a song for a charity event raising funds for the Wild At Heart foundation. I chose to write from the perspective of a mis-treated animal that is rescued.
Plant A Rose (the demo track available to listen in the 2nd part of the video) was written after a dream where I found myself on ‘the other side’ singing back to everyone. It’s almost like a re-birth song, from beyond the veil.
The demo of this track gives a hint of what’s to come!
I hope you enjoy listening!
Orchard Studios will be the home for my recordings, set in an apple orchard in Alsager, I feel supported there, it’s run by lovely people and the peace of the countryside is a perfect backdrop for this creative endeavour. orchardstudios.co.uk
I once sat for the incredible aritst, Mark Demsteader. He has kindly gifted the use of his drawing of me to use as the album cover.
I ran a campaign on crowdfunder to produce eco yoga mats in aid of Action On Addiction and Mind. The project was a success, it was a meaningful cause to me which I ran because close family member had struggled with their mental health and addiction and is now in recovery. This was another aspect of my life where writing songs really supported me in healing. The Crowdfunder team were absolutely amazing, they were so supportive and helpful and I don’t think I could’ve done it without them. This is why I am choosing their platform for my current project.
