Ruddi's Retreat

Was set up in 2011 to help children like Ruddi to enjoy a holiday away from hospitals, doctors appointments and the horror that is Cancer. The charity became officially registered in February 2011. It is our aim to help families with seriously ill children to have access to a holiday home for free! We want to help families with young children suffering from the effects and after effects of Cancer Treatment, Life Limiting Illnesses or Bereavement to enjoy a family holiday together with minimal financial cost and maximum fun!

We have already saved up for and purchased 2 caravans but we are now full and oversubscribed so we are having to turn families away, just when they need us most.

The caravans cost around £25,000.00 but we want to put a hoist in and fully adapt the van so that families of all abilities can use them. To site the van and keep it to a high standard we need an additional £5000.00 a year per van, we can raise this by holding events, etc. but again could really benefit from some help.

2016 saw the launch of Gwennie’s Getaways. Gwennie’s Getaways is committed to providing short-term breaks to those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia and their family or carers, this ensures the caravans are full during term time too and enables us to help even more people.
