Ian Smith is a deaf DJ/Radio Presenter with 40 years experience in the music industry, winning an Access To Music Award at the BAFTA's in 2005. He has been running his own urban music radio station Riddim Lion Radio since it's set up in June 2019.
He is now developing the radio station into a Community Urban Radio Project primarily aimed at young and disadvantaged people in the local community. We will lease a building and provide training in DJ'ing, Radio Show Production, Presentation and Broadcast, Music & Media content creation, and music promotion. As well as the above there is the radio's 24/7 live platform from which the local community can get their voice heard. As well as the above skills people will also build confidence and social skills.
The community radio station is set up as a Community Interest Company and is non-profit sharing. The station will be run by volunteers and overseen by a Manager and board of Trustees.
The initial fundraising for £25 000 is cover the first years building lease and extra broadcast equipment needed. We already have over £10 000 of equipment to start us off and a radio transit van. We are also applying for Arts Lottery Funding and funding from other sources.
