In the early hours of 20th November a car crashed into the churchyard of All Saints Church, smashing through the ancient lych gate so loved by generations of wedding couples and visitors to the churchyard and causing serious damage to between 8 and 10 gravestones.
This churchyard is the burial place of the community and the second largest churchyard in the UK, surrounding the beautiful 12th century All Saints Church which is still used for worship (in fact, our last service was Sunday morning!)
We are keen to get the damage repaired and the area restored and renewed as All Saints is where we will be holding our popular Christmas tree festival, as well as a Christmas wedding and other events for the community, plus funerals and services for the people of Brightlingsea.
This much-loved and iconic space is tended by the wonderful Holy Mowers, some of whom already working to clear debris.
