We want to restart our village cricket club after boar damage and then Covid-19.

New stretch target

With any extra funding we can find a coach for cricket training for youngsters

We are Yorkley Star Cricket Club formed around 1880, a small club on Cut & Fry Green in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and we have been hit badly by wild boar damage and then the Coronavirus outbreak.

                                                      ###################

  • With the help of generous donations from the local community, and a major grant from Tesco, Yorkley Star Cricket Club provided a fence round their cricket pitch in 2017 after the extensive boar damage. Membership dwindled during the time the pitch was unplayable with several players moving to other clubs but gradually the club was beginning to build up again managing to play a few fun games.
  • Then Covid struck and it was of course impossible to play any further matches. With no ongoing membership subscriptions the finances of the club, became a real worry for YSCC.
  • To date the club holds around £2000 out of which we have to pay for insurance on our pavilion, electricity and  water plus other contingencies. This will not last for very much longer.
  • Currently the cricket ground is used as a recreation ground for local people to enjoy, especially dog walkers. The ground is of course now well protected from any further boar damage.

WHY WE NEED MONEY

  • As soon as possible, YSCC intend to mount an intensive advertising campaign to regenerate their cricket club. We hope that men, women and children of all ages and ethnicities will be encouraged to join us in making Yorkley Star a special village cricket club once again
  • We need funding for our campaign and to provide enough money to keep the club afloat until we can start membership subscriptions again.
