I am raising money to fund my PhD at the University of Cambridge looking at psychosis in Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).
PWS is a rare generic disorder due to two major genetic defects on chromosome 15. One of these defects is associated with a very high risk of developping psychosis (more than 60%) in addition to the core symptomes.
My PhD will look at the differences in sensory processing and cognition between the two genetic subtypes. This will enable us to:
1- to find a way to detect psychosis at very early stages and treat it before the actual onset of the disease associated with neuronal damages.
2- To understand brain mechanisms involves in psychosis.
This research will benefit to people with PWS, but also people with learning disabilities, as well as people in the general population.
