As women get older they start to disappear from our stage and screens, and when they are there it is often in stereotyped roles.
Recent research has shown that this cultural ageism leads to age-based discrimination, which in turn leads to exclusion, unemployment, physical and mental health issues.
We are a group of actors, writers, directors and producers of all ages. We're crowdfunding so we can:
1. Campaign to change the way older women are represented
2. Create projects for stage and screen that tackle ageism head on
3. Create spaces for older women to connect with their confidence and voice
We've already started developing a new theatre production, My Turn Now, which is inspired by a true story about a group of women who wrote a book, Growing Old Disgracefully, that kickstarted a movement in the early 1990s. We have just launched a new digital campaign and are piloting events focused on confidence for older women. We need funds to continue this work, to pay for campaigning to help raise awareness, to pay actresses and creative teams to make and perform work that challenges ageism and to pay people to run workshops on confidence and voice with older women.
We're passionate about combatting the invisibility and ageism that women experience as they age and we can't do that alone! Please donate and get in touch if you'd like to work with us or support the campaign in other ways.
