RENDEZVOUS IN BRATISLAVA - THE EP
Rendezvous in Bratislava is a new music theatre production telling the story of my granddad, Laco Kalina, who was a dramaturg, satirist, collector of jokes and writer of cabarets. The show toured the UK in Autumn 2018, and had a two-week run at Battersea Arts Centre, London in November.
We are now raising money to be able to record the Rendezvous EP - an album of the show's original music, recorded in a studio and professionally mixed and mastered. So many people saw the show and told us how catchy the music was, and asked where they could listen to it again: we're going to give the people what they want!
“A cheerful yet poignant exploration of a fascinating life in troubled times... The compositions of Thom Andrewes and Will Gardner are fun, catchy, and sometimes deeply affecting." Everything Theatre
"The music was fantastic - still humming along." Audience member
The music from Rendezvous in Bratislava provides a link between the past and the present. Using forms and styles inspired by Laco’s life and work, and borrowing elements from a treasure trove of archival sources, these tracks shift from folk and classical, to jazz, comedy and synth pop, all in the service of telling one remarkable life story.
You may remember such earworms as: Loud and Clear, Party Nearly Over, S l'udskou tvarou, and Medicine For Our Sins. All these and more will be on the EP.
Everything you donate will go towards paying for the studio, a studio engineer, the musicians' time, and a producer to mix and master the tracks.
