We are redeveloping our town centre location to create a space where people struggling with managed mental health can receive help and hope.

by Refreshment UK in Blackpool, Blackpool, United Kingdom

The current pandemic has caused so many people to struggle with existing and new mental health conditions and the lockdown has meant that so many people are struggling to cope.

In our shop on Deansgate, daily, we meet people who are needing extra support for this and our passion to support people with managed mental health means that we want to make our upper rooms at Deansgate in Blackpool into a workshop and meeting space so that we can provide both advocacy and practical support.

We currently have a shop that offers opportunities to those who need support fr managed mental health. Each week, our team meet over 300 people in the shop, but we'd like a space to provide extra support which will include counselling, financial support and workshops to create crafts, art and other goods.

We hope the upper rooms will have a small kitchenette, tv screens and space for storage. The ex-hairdressers is in need of a refurbishment and we are blessed to have a Refresh refurbishment team who will be able to work on the joinery, plumbing and electrical work to a professional standard.

We are launching this crowdfunder to meet the cost of the material to create this space where people can find help and hope on the high street, and support for their mental health needs.

Crowdfunder is waiving its platform fees for community and charity crowdfunding projects during the coronavirus crisis. The Covid-19 epidemic could affect millions of people in the next few weeks.

These are unprecedented times but together, we are stronger, and the response is coming from communities across the country.

Volunteer groups are springing up to tackle the logistical problems faced in our communities – but they need urgent support. That's where we come in.
