To elect Rebecca Lury as the Labour Member of Parliament for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner

by rebecca4rnp in Ruislip, England, United Kingdom

I’m delighted to be standing as the Labour candidate for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner.

I grew up in Harrow and there is nothing that would be a greater honour than representing the area where I spent time during my childhood and where members of my family still live.

I’ve been a Labour party activist for over a decade, starting my parliamentary journey in the 2006 local elections in Harrow, through to working on the General Election campaigns in 2010 and 2015, as well as helping elect Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London in 2016.  I was elected as a Councillor in 2012, and I Chair the Healthy Communities Committee, as well as being Chair of the South East London Health Committee.

Giving back to the local community is also incredibly important to me, and I am a Trustee at Parks for London, which advocates for parks and green spaces throughout London, as well as being a Trustee at Su Mano Amiga, a domestic violence charity supporting the Latin American community.

People in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner need a local champion to represent their views in Parliament, not someone who isn’t seen around the constituency.

I’m keen to support constituents on both national and local issues, listening to views and making representations on their behalf in Parliament.

I’ve set out below some of the key areas that I would work on for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner residents.

On Brexit: I want to make sure that local jobs and livelihoods are protected for residents throughout Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner as we go through the process of exiting the EU

On health services: Social care is in crisis in this country. I want to find a sustainable funding mechanism for finding care in this country, whilst protecting our local hospitals and health services

On education: The Conservative cuts to school funding will have a devastating effect on local schools. I want to see all children given a chance to achieve their potential. And I will work with the local Council to protect the future of Pinner Wood School

On HS2: Whilst I agree with the proposal for the introduction of HS2, I am concerned about the effects on local residents and will work to reduce the impact on those affected

If you can donate anything to the campaign, however small, I would be incredibly grateful. This will help us to increase our presence across the constituency in the run up to the General Election on 8 June.
