We would like to R&D a new play that will be written by Amanda Lane and directed by Emma Latham in association with The Hardy at Kemble House. The play will tell the story of Empress Matilda a controversial yet relatively unknown character in our history. We are interested in exploring women's position in history and time and how time itself relates to gender. We believe it is vital to share untold female stories on the stage and to give a voice to women who have been unheard or misrepresented. Amanda and Emma met at Kemble House and immediately felt a creative kinship which they would like to develop and grow as they collaborate on this project.
The plan...to get a couple of actors, Amanda and Emma together in the wonderful Kemble House for a few days to play with initial ideas and passages of script. Then to meet up again a month later once Amanda has had a chance to develop the script and perform a rehearsed reading.
We would like to raise £500 to pay for the venue, cover our artists's expenses which is really important to us and provide a little heating to keep out the chill in rehearsals! Our ultimate aim is to share the story of Empress Matilda with an audience and this is the first step on that journey.
