RawFfest is a Youth Arts Festival led by Young People with the objective of getting young people involved in the arts in Wales.

by RawFfest GŵylGrai in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom

Tara filmed and edited the video featured above. Can you help us support more people like her?

  • £10 will help a disadvantaged young person to experience the festival for one day for free
  • £25 will support accommodation costs for a disadvantaged person attending the festival from another part of Wales to stay overnight
  • £50 will train one young PlaceMaker to become a peer-to-peer buddy for the weekend, enabling them to support a young person with disabilities to access the festival.

Your donation will be match funded by Wales Millennium Centre, our partner for the 2019 festival.

Read on to find out more about our story and how we help young people across Wales.

Our story…

Once upon a time there was a group of young people. Every day those young people went to school, college, university and work, looking for something and some place of their own to shape, create and belong to.

One day, RawFfest was born.

Because of that, hundreds of young people across Wales get the opportunity to watch, perform and experience art, make new and lifelong friends, learn and develop new skills in a safe, welcoming environment and above all, feel a part of something bigger.

Because of the mission we set ourselves, we need your help to make this RawFfest the biggest and best one yet. Until finally, we reach our goal and help young people experience the arts in its richest and rawest form.

About RawFfest

RawFfest GŵylGrai is a youth-led, national, multi-arts festival for Wales. Young people plan it, programme it and produce it: our mantra is ‘by young people for young people’. All the performances and exhibitions are also by 14 – 25 year old's. From 25th - 28th April 2019 the festival comes to Cardiff, the capital city, for the first time.

The festival is run by the PlaceMakers. We are a diverse bunch from a broad range of backgrounds. Some of us face additional challenges in our daily lives but RawFfest allows each of us to find a way to learn, develop skills and pursue our own unique areas of interest.

RawFfest has helped us to grow and we want your help to make it easy for other disadvantaged young people to take part and experience the benefits of art and creativity in an inclusive, vibrant and welcoming setting.

How RawFfest helps

Tara lives in Newport, South Wales, and with her twin sister Emmy, spent some of her childhood in other parts of the UK in order to avoid domestic abuse. School wasn’t easy because of her dyslexia and dyspraxia. Tara’s passion for film and TV helped her though these tough experiences - her dream was to become a camera operator.

Tara took part in the very first RawFfest in 2016 and set up a showcase of films made by young people. She has continued to be a crucial member of the planning group for the subsequent festivals and in 2018 she joined the Governance Committee.

“RawFfest has been so important in raising my confidence. I now know I can speak up and make things happen. I’ve improved my camera and editing skills on the project – and made some lifelong friends. I just love it!”

In 2018 one of Tara’s dreams came true and she was a camera trainee on Doctor Who.

Ein stori…

Un tro roedd yna griw o bobl ifanc. Bob dydd roedd y bobl ifanc hynny’n mynd i’r ysgol, y coleg, y brifysgol ac i’r gwaith, yn chwilio am rywbeth a rhywle oedd yn perthyn iddyn nhw i’w siapio, ei greu ac i berthyn iddo.

Un diwrnod ganed GŵylGrai.

Oherwydd hynny, mae cannoedd o bobl ifanc drwy hyd a lled Cymru yn cael y cyfle i wylio, i berfformio ac i brofi celfyddyd, i wneud ffrindiau newydd - ffrindiau oes – ac i ddysgu a meithrin sgiliau newydd mewn amgylchfyd diogel, croesawgar ac uwchlaw popeth, i deimlo’n rhan o rywbeth mwy.

Oherwydd y perwyl a bennon ni i’n hunain, mae arnom angen eich help i wneud yr W^ylGrai yma'r fwyaf a’r orau eto. Hyd nes i ni o’r diwedd gyrraedd ein nod a helpu pobl ifanc i brofi’r celfyddydau ar eu gwedd lawnaf a mwyaf crai.

Ynghylch GŵylGrai

Gŵyl amlgelfyddyd, genedlaethol, i Gymru, dan arweiniad ieuenctid yw GŵylGrai. Pobl ifanc sy’n ei chynllunio, ei rhaglennu ac yn ei chynhyrchu: ein mantra yw ‘gan bobl ifanc i bobl ifanc’. Mae’r holl berfformiadau a’r arddangosfeydd hefyd gan bobl ifanc 14 – 25 oed. O 25ain – 28ain Ebrill 2019 daw’r ŵyl i Gaerdydd, y brifddinas, am y tro cyntaf.

Y Croesawyr sy’n rhedeg yr ŵyl. Criw o bob lliw a llun ydyn ni, o amrywiaeth eang o gefndiroedd. Mae rhai ohonom yn wynebu heriau dros ben yn ein bywydau pob dydd ond mae GŵylGrai yn rhoi lle i bob un ohonon ni gael ffordd i ddysgu, i feithrin sgiliau ac i ganlyn ein meysydd diddordeb dihafal ein hunain. Bu GŵylGrai yn gymorth i ni dyfu ac mae arnom eisiau eich help chi i’w gwneud yn hawdd i bobl ifanc eraill dan anfantais gymryd rhan a phrofi bendithion celfyddyd a chreadigedd mewn amgylchfyd cynhwysol, bywiog a chroesawgar.

Sut y mae GŵylGrai o gymorth

Yng Nghasnewydd, De Cymru, mae Tara’n byw a threuliodd hi a’i gefeilles, Emmy, beth o’u plentyndod mewn rhannau eraill o wledydd Prydain er mwyn osgoi cam-drin domestig. Doedd yr ysgol ddim yn hawdd oherwydd ei dyslecsia a’i dyspracsia. Roedd gan Tara awch am ffilmiau a’r teledu a hyn fu’n gymorth iddi ddod drwy’r profiadau anodd hyn – ei breuddwyd oedd mynd yn ferch gamera.

Cymerodd ran yn yr ŵylGrai gyntaf un yn 2016 a sefydlu stondin o ffilmiau wnaed gan bobl ifanc. Daliodd i fod yn aelod hanfodol o’r grŵp cynllunio i’r gwyliau wedyn ac yn 2018 ymunodd â’r Pwyllgor Llywodraethu.

“Bu GŵylGrai yn hollbwysig o ran rhoi hyder i mi. Bellach gallaf ddweud fy nweud a gwneud i bethau ddigwydd. Rwyf wedi gwella fy sgiliau camera a golygu ar y prosiect – ac wedi gwneud ffrindiau oes. Rwy’n dwli arno!”

Yn 2018 gwireddwyd un o freuddwydion Tara ac roedd yn hyfforddai camera ar Doctor Who.
