Welcome to our Crowd Funder page.
We are volunteers who care passionately about male cancers and the difficulties faced by unpaid carers. We have both been personally involved with caring for a male family member and know men who have had or are still receiving treatment for prostate cancer. Through our involvement, we realise that their conditions could have deen diagnosed sooner had they been aware of the signs, and visited their GPs when the symptons first appeared. Our experiences, have highlighted the many psychological and financial effects that can impact on the carer, as well as their extended family and friends, and we are here to raise awareness of some of the support mechanisms that are available.
We are organisng a gala dinner to be held in London on Saturday 8 October 2016, to raise awareness for two charities, Orchid -fighting male cancer and Carers UK -making life better for carers.
To endorse the success of this event, we are trying to raise funds in advance to cover security, AV and lighting, photography and a twitterwall for the evening. As this is a non-profit making event, all monies raised during the evening will go towards the two charities - Orchid and Carers UK.
It is Orchid's 21st birthday in 2017, so to celebrate and acknowledge the work and research they do; we are seeking donations to cover the cost of a songwriter/publisher and marketing/distribution of a single; the proceeds of which will be used to support this great charity.

Carers UK is calling for the Government, local authorities and health bodies to redouble their efforts to support England's 5.4 million unpaid carers, as new research from the charity reveals how a perfect storm of squeezed public services and financial pressures is pushing carers to the brink. Orchid exists to save men's lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers through pioneering research and promoting awareness. https://orchid-cancer.org.uk/ It is only by talking about male cancer that men and women will be made aware of and notice the signs and symptons. As with all cancers, early diagnosis can lead to less complicated treatment and ultimately save lives.
Orchid works with a range of organisations including MacMillan Cancer Support, CRUK, Teenage Cancer Trust, Target Prostate Cancer, Prostate Cancer UK, British Association of Urological Nurses (BAUN) and specialist teams such as Penile Cancer Supra-networks.
With twenty years of experience funding research of the highest quality, Orchid has delivered a number of ground-breaking achievements for male cancer patients in the UK and across the globe.
A few of them are:
- The Development of the Orchid Tissue Bank - an international resource for cancer research analysis; contains the largest collection of penile cancers in a tissue array in Europe. It is now one of the largest testicular tissue banks in the world and is custodian of the most important series of untreated prostate cancers.
- The discovery that the gene ZDHHC14 is often damaged in cases of testicular and prostate cancer.
- The discovery that the risk of testis cancer is increased in people with HIV.
We all have someone past or present who has touched our lives in a way that we would wish to remember them; we may even have had an illness or trauma ourselves and have been cared for. Prostate, penile and testicular cancers are on the increase and age, ethnicity or social demographics are no barriers to the disease.
So help us to raise awareness and support the wonderful work performed by these two charities who go hand in hand in striving to improve our quality of life. Please give generously.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
