We want to provide opportunities for young people to successfully engage with business and help them widen their view of the world of work

by Engage2Action in Redhouse Park, England, United Kingdom

Following many years in the corporate world getting the chance to work with schools, educate teachers and parents as well as children around what skills businesses need, providing mentorship to and opportunities for young people to engage with learning in a completely different way, I and a few like minded friends knew we had to find a way to let every young person access these same experiences.

We know there’s so much fantastic work going on across the UK where organisations and industry offer these experiences to schools, but there’s a worsening skills crisis in many industries, youth crime and working poverty are on the rise and so many businesses are not in the position to be able to help due to a lack of resources. Our model is different but also complimentary to what is already out there, helping communities to reach every school, helping SMEs to give back to their communities, raising the aspirations of young people, broadening their view of what the world of work could be for them, engaging every one in learning that will provide them with the skills they need and giving real value back to businesses for their involvement.

To offer our programmes to schools for free we need the financial backing from industry, however we are right at the start and like any start up we need to some money to enable us to employ our wonderful project manager Kate, to help us write our lesson plans, write our content for programmes and to support  learning events in schools. We also want to create an amazing animated video to tell the story of successful business and school engagement, which we can use to help to market our programme and will also be used as content for the schools programmes.

Our ultimate ambition is to improve the way employability skills are taught in schools, addressing the UK skills shortage and to improve the lives of people in every community giving everyone the same opportunity for a fulfilling career.
