Hello! My name is Rachael, I'm a designer and maker- that's me waving in the yellow apron! I create joyful, floral ceramics and surface design for interiors. On 1st June 2019 I got the keys to a beautiful studio space in Great Yarmouth. I need your help to finish transforming the space into a fully equipped studio where I can create new work, offer workshops and continue running my tiny one-person creative business. I'm so close! Can you help me get there?
I was working as an art teaching assistant and technician when I started making and sharing pictures of my ceramics on Instagram. Some of my work was noticed and published by a magazine in Aug 2017 and this was enough for me to quit my job (!) and make my creative practice my full time work. In September 2017 I joined a small shared ceramic studio and in 2018 I began selling my ceramics through Instagram and an online shop. My first year of being self employed was challenging but exciting; developing my work, collaborating with creative brands and working with galleries and stockists, I knew I had made the right decision!
However, in January of this year I had to leave my small shared studio as I had outgrown their facilities. I had a difficult time finding a studio space which I could afford and for several months I had to put my making on hold. Fortunately, my luck changed and in April, I was awarded a grant by local business development programme Start East to purchase a new kiln and computer and I finally found my dream studio space which I moved into in June. The studio is a beautiful, light attic of a 17th century listed building in the historic seaside town of Great Yarmouth. I've worked very hard to get to this stage but still have a little way to go until the studio is fully set up.
By selling some limited pieces as pre-orders, I will be able to organise and purchase the final few things I need to get the studio going!
The money raised here will be used for:
- The electrical wiring in of my kiln
- Shelving and workbenches for the studio
- Purchasing ceramic equipment and materials for workshops
Thank you so much for reading. Any support you are able to give will be HUGELY appreciated!
