Portishead Youth Centre is made up of a team of highly experienced and qualified Youth Workers, Mentors and Pre-School workers who, with support from a board of volunteer Trustees. Our objective is to provide high quality youth work sessions, projects and drop-ins for children and young people aged 8-25 (including those with additional and complex needs).
We run 7 different youth club sessions and support around 300 children and young people per week.
We also deliver 1:1 support for young people who are particularly struggling with their mental health, anxiety, behaviour or following trauma. These young people are matched to a Mentor who works with them for a minimum of 6 weeks through sessions that are tailored specifically to their needs.
As a Centre we also work with parents and their small children through a range of play sessions and support groups. Parents are able to meet with others, allow their children to play and socialise with other pre-school aged children and get support and advice from our experienced staff. We also run a creche facility for parents needing a bit of 'me' time, to enable them to work, attend appointments or complete errands.
We also support senior citizens in our town with monthly lunches, allowing often isolated and lonely older people to meet with others over a homemade two course meal.
Our building is very much a space for the whole community to benefit from and we welcome everyone to make use of the amazing facilities and support available here.
Funding from Aviva will be used to maintain this high level of support by helping to 'keep the lights on'. So often it is difficult to secure funding that covers the basic costs associated with a space like ours, yet without this support our building can't exist.
