Prospero Theatre are based in Caterham, Surrey but work throughout the South East. We are lucky enough to own a large number of props and costumes and a few set pieces. Our costumes vary from period dresses and tailcoats to sets of children's costumes that we use for a range of workshops. And we have a lot of hats and cloaks! Below are some of the costumes used for 'Red and the Wolf' which we took to Edinburgh last year.
We do a lot of shows and workshops, working with people with and without disabilities. These are mostly small-scale community projects and this resource has meant that we are able to bring these projects in on a small budget. This year, for example we have done two first world war plays, so lots of coats and jackets. In November we perform three plays based on Dali; our costume lady is currently working on very colourful tunics to go with some skirts that we already have.
We have been extremely fortunate to have had free storage at a local Arts Centre since the company began in 2015 but this has come to an end. We have found a wonderful attic in the beautiful Soper Hall in Caterham, with space for lots of costume rails and boxes. This campaign is to raise £2700 to cover the cost of the room for the first year, after which the rental charge will be built into our budget. The Soper Hall is a community venue and these costs are far lower than a commercial operator would charge.
Do give if you can. We use drama to make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities. Our props and costumes are essential to the work. Oh and we have a few puppets - thankfully not all as big as this one. Thank you.
