Ill Mental Health is the fastest growing pandemic with in the UK, with over 6000 deaths in the last 3 years. It is the number one killer in the UK at present. Mark hopes to combat this with the use of Project Mindspace. Mark knows first hand the devastating damage that ill Mental health can cause after being diagnosed PTSD from his 22 year service in the British Army. Mark has been on a number of operational tours, seeing combat and conflict that most could only imagine. Mark was diagnosed in November 2015, and has had to face some major challenges. There has been talk of suicide and attempts, however, thank god he is with us today.
So what is Project Mindspace. Project Mindspace is a study of Mental Health Vs Outdoor education. Mark has used his own recovery to conduct this study, and in doing so, this has helped his own Mental health, and his positive state massively improve. Project Mindspace was also designed by Mark, and has explain the 3 phase's to the Project.
- Phase one - To conduct training, gain civilian qualifications and conduct work in the UK as a Freelance Outdoor instructor. This phase has now been completed.
- Phase two - To continue with all of the above, and also start as an overseas expedition Leader. Mark has completed this phase.
- Phase three - To complete an extreme expedition in the Himalayas. Not completed yet.
Phase three of Project Mindspace will see Mark climb the eighth highest Mountain in the world. Mount Manaslu standing at an impressive 8163m, in Nepal. Mark intends to take this massive challenge on in September, were he will not only be battling the mountain, but his own demons going on in his mind.
So why are we supporting Mark on this Project Mondspace. Mark intends to use Project Mindspace to help others in the UK with Mental health problems, he is able to engineer expeditions to suit anyone to drive home a positive mind, enabling confidence to go and seek there own adventure. Mark Hopes in the future he will be able to open a Wellbeing centre, where people can come to relax, plan and enjoy every adventure they wish.
