Video: stretch target: you've helped reach £25,000+ in 48 hours
Thank you for supporting Project Iron Bridge; we’ve been amazed and touched by your response. In less than 48 hours, over 500 of you rallied to save the bridge and we are hugely grateful to everyone for their generosity.
In response to your overwhelming support, we have now increased our target by £15,000 to support the final part of Project Iron Bridge – painting the 378 ton masterpiece. This will protect the bridge from the wind and the rain for decades to come.
One of the finishing touches to the project will be the hand-painting of each letter of the inscription that stretches along the Iron Bridge’s span over the river. The inscription links the bridge firmly with the local Shropshire town of Coalbrookdale where workers braved the furnaces, casting the brand new and unknown material which would become the world’s first iron bridge. In the tradition of their labour and ingenuity, our specialist conservators will use cutting-edge paint technology that is sensitive towards the historic iron and closely matches the original colour. They will work metres above the River Severn to painstakingly re-touch each letter of the paintwork.
Please spread the word so that we can make it happen.
Thank you so much! From Morgan, Matt, and the team at the Iron Bridge.
