As some of you know, I just came back from spending 6 months working with over 100 Alaskan Huskies in Canada. I went there to remove myself from the London lifestyle, detach, destress and discover what truly makes me happy. Turns out it's a dog. This dog to be exact. Meet Tuff.
Tuff is 6 years old (named after Tofino on Vancouver Island) and is a born and bred sled dog. This means she has spent a few years pulling sleds for tourists in the incredible Rocky Mountains. An experience of a lifetime for those guests and a job these dogs absolutely love doing. But just like us humans, some jobs are more suited to other people and let's just say the sled dog life wasn't for her. A wonderful hound, but she is much more interested in snoozing than pulling. Hence the adoption.
During my time at the kennel, Tuff spent many nights with me in my little caravan and I'd spend many afternoons playing with her in her pen. And when she was put up for adoption the thought of her going to another family was something I couldn't bear thinking about. I agreed to take her. And then I realised the cost of flying her over.
I spent a long time working out if I could afford it, and more than once I decided the best thing to do would be to let her go to another family. But, as I told people this story I was blown away by how many said they would happily donate a small amount to help getting her here. So I have to at least try.
You can't offer rewards on a personal page, but for every £20 pledge you'll get a Tuff keyring. And for £50 or more you'll get your very own Tuff t-shirt! Anything over £100 and you'll be an official 'Aunt' or 'Uncle' and have walking and dog sitting privileges (subject to many, many conditions!).
Thank you all so much.
